Though more often seen in adults, children can also get bronchitis, which is an inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes. These tubes carry air to and from the lungs. Those infected with bronchitis often cough up thickened mucus, which can be discolored.
Bronchitis may be either acute or chronic. Acute bronchitis often develops from a cold or other respiratory infection while chronic bronchitis is a more serious condition as it is an infection of the larger, more central airways in the lungs.
If your child shows symptoms of bronchitis, promptly consult your healthcare provider.
